Saturday School
Saturday School is the mandatory activity of the RCT program. Classes meet most Saturdays (typically 16 class days from late August through March/April) from 8:50 a.m. to noon, at Church on The Hill in Riverside. Class size is limited to 18-30 students per class to ensure that all students can fully benefit from both individualized and group instruction. As a result, there is generally a 2-3 year waiting list to join the organization depending on gender and grade level. Great attention is devoted to helping the children build their self esteem, confidence and public speaking skills; skills and abilities that will enhance their adult lives wherever their career paths will take them. Click on the Membership page for information on how to place your child on our enrollment waiting list.
Saturday School Staff
Students receive two hours of instruction in acting/drama, dance, vocal music, and supplemental enrichment by our experienced, qualified, and creative teachers and staff every class day. Most of our teachers are licensed/credentialed educators, with others having significant experience professionally in the local performing arts community. Many of our teachers are RCT alumni who are now excited to be fostering a new generation of creative minds. All of our staff and educators are Live Scanned.
Acting/Drama Class
RCT students receive two full hours of acting instruction every Saturday. Our amazing staff of theatrical educators are dedicated to teaching their students the fundamental skills of theatre arts in a fun and supportive environment. They intensively work with each child to tackle acting, improvisiation, and public speaking, so that they can apply these skills to all aspects of musical theatre.
Dance Class
Dance instruction is a big part of Saturday School. Each week RCT students work on age-appropriate choreography, techniques and skills that challenges them to achieve their personal best in a positive and rewarding environment. Students will develop rhythm, coordination, and confidence. RCT's goal is to promote the love of dance and to create a solid foundation of technique, flexibility and, most importantly, fun.
Music Class
RCT's Music instruction is another large component of Saturday School curriculum. Music is the foundation for all things theatre, and our teachers are dedicated to building each child's ability in diction, projection, pitch, and vocal expression. Whether rehearsing in an ensemble or being featured in a solo, our students will acquire the techniques and vocal skills required to successfully participate in theatrical performances.
Tech Class
RCT alumni and other high school aged students have the opportunity to join the Tech Class. This class teaches students about the behind-the-scenes magic of a production. It allows them to gain valuable insight into what it takes to put on a production or performance. They meet weekly at Saturday school and learn about theatrical makeup, set design and prop creation.
